Ears

My John Lowell drum was in need of some ears, but only two pieces of ears came with the drum. Fortuntately Ellis Mirsky's Lowell drum had some ears in good condition, and he let me borrow one to copy. The stitching was done in the exact same way as my ear, so I was able to determine that the ears that came with my drum were the originals. I now have a leather cutting die I can use to make accurate copies.

The "green drum"

A couple bad things have happened to this drum. It has been cut down, had its tacks pulled out, and has been painted green. I wouldn't normally repaint or revarnish ANY old drum, but this is a rare example of drum that needs to be refinished. The tack design and ash shell looks like the Zimmerman below.

Oak hoop

These are going on maple drum #2. Besides a few cracks, steam bending the oak hoops went well. I don't think I'll have to buy any more maple hoops from Cooperman.
